Sarah Ludford MEP (ALDE) has been appointed Rapporteur for a European Parliament report 'Review of the European Arrest Warrant'. As a member of the LIBE committee and the UK Liberal Democrat European justice & human rights spokeswoman, she has been actively involved in the area of European police and criminal justice cooperation and has taken a strong interest in particular in the operation of the European Arrest Warrant.
Her broad aims are to strengthen respect for the principle of proportionality and fundamental rights in its application while not undermining its vital role in bringing criminals expeditiously to justice.
To help prepare her report Sarah Ludford is hosting with Renate Weber MEP an ALDE group hearing on "The European Arrest Warrant: issues and solutions" in order to get input from experts in the field. Representatives of the European Institutions, civil society - NGOs and academics - and national authorities will present their views on the EAW following which Sarah Ludford welcomes questions & answers and discussion.
